A ‘honeymoon’ with fresh faces
FRESH faces are the order of the day in Hurricane Honeymoon, Jambiz International’s new play which opened May 30 at the Little Theatre in Kingston.
While the comedy stars Jambiz mainstay Glen Campbell, the cast is dominated by newcomers including Akeem Mignott, Natalee Cole, Shantol Jackson (who alternate as Hilda Charm), Akeem as John Charm and Ricky Rowe, who alternates with Campbell as Marley.
Lenford Salmon, a co-founder and director at Jambiz, said projecting new actors is not unique for the company.
“Jambiz has a long history of introducing fresh talent to the Jamaican stage, having introduced actors who are now regarded as household names in the Industry. These include Dahlia Harris, Kathy Owen, Camille Davis, Courtney Wilson, Donisha Prendergast.”
Campbell and Oliver Samuels have led most of the Jambiz hit productions over the years, including Oliver and Pinnochio and Saving Alligator High which preceded Hurricane Honeymoon.
Salmon told the Sunday Observer that audiences have warmed to the newcomers.
“Response so far has been tremendous. Opening night was sold out completely. Since then, we have had five other performances, all of which have been very well supported,” he said.
Written by Jambiz co-founder Patrick Brown, Hurricane Honeymoon focuses on newly-weds John and Hilda Charm whose honeymoon is anything but, after secrets from their past emerge.
Their interaction with Marley the maintenance man further complicates their situation.
Hurricane Honeymoon continues today at the Little Theatre with two shows: at 5:00 am and 8:00 pm.
