A decade of Absinthe
THE popular party series Absinthe will mark its 10th anniversary at the newly refurbished Morgan’s Harbour Hotel in Port Royal on Sunday.
According to Dwayne Dacres, a member of Syndicate Events — promoters of the event, this staging will mark a return to Morgan’s Harbour for the first time in over a year.
“We are returning to Morgan’s Harbour after one year’s absence, so patrons should expect the same high-energy Absinthe party experience they have grown to love over the years,” he said.
The first staging of Absinthe took place in September 2005 at a complex located at the corner of Annette Crescent and Waterloo Road in Kingston. Since then, it has been held three times annually in July, September and December.
Dacres explained to Splash how the party has evolved.
“The event has evolved from being just a house party to becoming one of Jamaica’s biggest event brands. We continue to raise the bar of the party experience and offer value for money to our patrons,” he said.
He noted that the total high-energy party experience, including premium quality bar service and an impressive line-up of DJs, has kept patrons coming to each staging of Absinthe.
DJs Kurt Riley, Richie Ras and the Renaissance Disco have been commissioned to provide the musical thrills at Sunday’s staging of Absinthe.
For the past seven years, Red Stripe has partnered with Syndicate Events to help make Absinthe one of the most memorable parties of the year.
“Our relationship with Red Stripe as our title sponsor has blossomed over the years and we have developed a splendid relationship,” said Dacres.
Toni-Ann Reid, assistant brand manager for Red Stripe, described the partnership as amazing.
“The partnership with Absinthe has been long-standing and amazing. At the last event, we introduced our Red Stripe cans and we are happy to be on board once more to introduce our Red Stripe Lemon-Paradise, our newest addition,” she said.
Absinthe has been held at various venues during its 10 years. Previous venues include Palisadoes Go Kart Track, NHT Parking Lot Roof Top, Hope Botanical Gardens, and House of Kumasi in Belvedere, Red Hills.
