Upper Room Church and the unbeaten Majesty Gardens will meet in the first game of the Western Division 2015 Community Basketball League best-of-three finals at the Majesty Gardens Courts today at 7:00 pm.

Upper Room Church (12-3) advanced to the Western Divisional finals by beating Linkup All Stars 2-1 in the best-of-three semi-finals at the Upper Room Church Courts, Grants Pen, on Saturday last.

Upper Room won 69-59 in the final game, with Jermaine ‘Juju’ Brown scoring 21 points with five rebounds and Astley Marshall contributing another 17 points. Paul Oliphant, 16 points with 10 rebounds, and Jeffrey Brown, with 15 points and 21 rebounds, scored most for Linkup All Stars.

Both teams were tied at the opening quarter at 13-13, but Upper Room eventually got the better of Linkup All Stars in the remaining quarters to advance after scores of 19-18, 21-16, and 16-10.

Meanwhile, Majesty Gardens (14-0) squeezed past Mega Mart Magics 69-65 for a 2-0 series win at the Edgewater Courts on July 10 to move into the Divisional finals.

Majesty Gardens trailed Mega Mart Magics 12-21 at the first quarter, but a game-high 33 points and six rebounds from Havanda Dunn, ably assisted by Mika Davis with 12 points and Lamont Lindsay with 10 points, steadied the ship for Majesty Gardens to advance after quarterly scores of 12-21, 16-11, 24-18, and 17-15.

Aqui Ferguson with 21 points and Kenardo Smith with 11 points led the way for Mega Mart Magics.

Meanwhile, Arnett Gardens Rockers drew first blood against Exed Heats in game one of the Southern Basketball League, Eastern Division finals, with a comfortable 86-65 score to lead the series 1-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex Courts on Sunday.

Arnett Gardens Rockers, who hold the best record in the Eastern Division (12-1), started strongly by taking the first quarter 18-11, only to see the Heats (11-3) coming right back at them to tie up the second quarter at 21-21.

That, however, was as far as the Heats got as the Rockers tidied up their act with identical scores of 24-16 and 23-17 to win the third and fourth quarters.

Vivian Spence with 24 points, including six of eight from behind the three-point arc, and with combined efforts from Kwayme Lawrence with 21 points and Fernando Young with 12 points, succeeded in sewing up the game for Arnett Rockers.

Omar Barnes with 22 points and Jermaine Thomas with 17 points rallied best for Exed Heats.

Game two will be played at the same venue on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
