The return of Briggy Benz
Briggy Benz returns to the music scene with Get Gyal Easy, a song co-produced by Notnice/Zen Enterprise.
The deejay was a member of Spragga Benz’s Red Square Unit and made his recording debut in 1999 with the Ward 21-produced Gi We Dem.
“The journey has been a test and testament, from the streets of Dunkirk to the lunch tables of Kingston College and Camperdown High. I can explain the cliché of the ghetto without being caught up with bad influences, plus I had a great mentor and influence in Spragga Benz who helped to shape my skills and knowledge,” said Briggy in an interview with this column.
Seven years ago, he relocated to New York where he settled and raised a family. Parenthood took precedence over music.
“My absence was parental, but I never stopped making music, never stopped traveling, but being outside of the mecca of dancehall also allowed me to do some restructuring,” said Briggy.
Born Damion Grant, Briggy grew up in Dunkirk, a gritty area in East Kingston. In addition to Get Gyal Easy, Briggy is promoting Celebrate, which is produced by Seanizzle.
