Gonsalves tells supporters to prepare for general election
KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC) – Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves says supporters of his Unity Labour party (ULP), must prepare themselves for the upcoming general election.
Gonsalves, who has already indicated that the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines will go to the polls before the end of the year, told supporters at a rally on Sunday to “get on your marks”.
The prime minister who is seeking an unprecedented fourth consecutive term in office , said “ah want Arnhim sweat a little bit” – making reference of leader of the main opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) Arnhim Eustace.
“I going to leave it ’til last”, the prime minister said in reference to the election date.
“I want him to sweat through this speech, I want him to listen to this, and He will listen to hear who is the boss. He would listen to hear who is the prime minister…” Gonsalves told his supporters.
However Gonsalves refrained from announcing the election date but implored party supporters to be prepared – “ Get set and wait until comrade Ralph says go” stating that his notice about the election date will be a short one.
General elections are constitutionally due by March 2016.
