POLICE say they have arrested two of the main suspects for the murder of Police Constable Lynden Barrett and have now launched a manhunt for another man, who up to late yesterday remained on the run.

Barrett was shot dead in the vicinity of Wellington Street, Kingston, about 8:20 on the night of Tuesday, July 21.

“We have arrested two men, who were wanted for the murder of the Police Constable Barrett, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ealan Powell told the Jamaica Observer in a telephone interview yesterday.

The men have been identified as Horation Livine, otherwise called ‘Ratio’, of Dread Lane, Denham Town, and Gratiano Green, alias ‘Beh Beh’, of Regent Street and Tulip Lane in Denham Town, Kingston 14.

Both men are said to be part of the Strikers Gang, a criminal outfit that earlier this year put out a hit list with the names of several police officer following the shooting death of their gang leader during a police operation. Police said Livine was captured about 4:30 pm Tuesday in Silent Hill, Manchester, and Green was held about 6:30 am Wednesday on Belvedere Road in Red Hills, St Andrew.

“Following the arrest, authorities have now launched another manhunt to apprehend a third member of the gang, who remains at large. He is also wanted for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation,” said ACP Powell.

Yesterday, ACP Powell issued a call for residents to help the police in going after criminals, who were wreaking havoc in communities across the island.

“We are still seeing cases where persons are reluctant to inform the police about strange persons coming into their community, and we want to call on citizens to do more to assist the authorities in their fight against criminals,” said Powell.

Residents of West Kingston had earlier claimed that Barrett was killed by his colleagues.
