KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson showed that she is definitely ready for the world’s stage as she effortlessly left the other contenders behind in heat four of the women’s 200m at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.

In her marvelous effort, Thompson literally walked across the line in 22.78 seconds to secure her semi-finals spot.

Britain’s Bianca Williams finished behind Thompson in a season’s best 22.85 and she was trailed by Canada’s Khamica Bingham, who finished in a time of 22.90 seconds.

All three Jamaicans have qualified for the 200m semi-finals.

Compatriot Veronica Campbell-Brown also won her heat in a time of 22.79 seconds. However, the wait to see if the veteran sprinter had qualified was a bit nerve-wracking as she had run out of her lane in the event. But, she was not penalised and was given the green light to the semis.

Campbell-Brown was trailed by Trinidad’s Semoy Hacket, who finished second in 22.89 seconds, and Britains Margaret Adeoye. Adeoye finished third in a time of 23.10.

The other Jamaican through to the semi-finals is Sherone Simpson who finished second in a time of 22.52 seconds in the final heat behind Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith (22.22s).
