Superstardom! – Saint Model Tami Williams creates history

Saint Model Tami Williams creates history as face of Calvin Klein’s Fall Campaign

SAINT International and Jamaican model Tami Williams is the first Caribbean model to be selected by Calvin Klein (CK),the global fashion behemoth, as the face of the brand for its Collection Fall 2015 Campaign, catapulting the young woman into the realm of superstardom.

Preliminary checks have revealed that no black model has done the ‘Collection’ campaign since the legendary supermodel Iman 33 years ago. The 17-year-old Williams now joins such names as Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, Natalia Vodionova, and more recently Lara Stone who have been made supermodels by the uber-prestigious Calvin Klein brand. Williams also shares the CK Collection spotlight with Grace Hertzel and Maartje Verhoef as a brand ambassador.

“The ubiquitous Calvin Klein brand’s global dominence lies in its commercial success and cross-generational appeal,” said Saint head honcho Deiwght Peters who could barely contain himself in an interview with the Jamaica Observer. “To get a sense of the magnitude of this news is to reflect on the brand’s advertising campaigns over the years.”

The present campaign was shot in New York City and is a moving cinematic masterpiece curated by visual artist Charels Atlas whose works have been exhibited in London,New York and Paris. He is a pioneer in the genre of media-dance which blends movement from original dance and video specifically for the camera. In the video, Tami is seen dancing elegantly to an 80’s rock vibe in the latest look for Calvin Klein Collection.

‘This is every model and agent’s ultimate dream. There has never been any Jamaican (or Caribbean model) whose ascendancy to true supermodeldom has been so profound and at such lightning speed,” boasted Peters who is the architect for the pristine global career of Williams, also officially considered an ‘American Vogue-girl’ with four high profile editorials within the last eight months. Her runway resume since her debut in February 2014 (in a groundbreaking semi-exclusive for Alexander Wang) is equally impressive.

“For a brand such as the legendary Calvin Klein to select Tami for its top brand category not only telegraphs to the world that she is among the world’s top models but also defines this moment for her to be a supermodel for the ages,” Peters suggested, adding:

“Indeeed this aint just chatter as the Peters protege is simultaneously fronting global campaigns for Top Shop and Dolce and Gabanna. This is unprecedented by any standard,” Peters said, arguing that this latest achievement had firmly catapulted Saint to the top of the category as “the most successful model management company ever from the Caribbean.

Saint’s biggest Jamaican and Caribbean rival is Kingsley Cooper’s Pulse, author of Caribbean Fashion Week.

In global fashion circles the power and significance of a Calvin Klein Collections campaign to a models career is renowned and it is significant that Calvin Klein defines its Fall Collection as “our most prestigious and luxurious brand, setting the tone for elegance and modern sophistication”.

Calvin Klein has often been criticised for the lack of diversity (use of models of colour) on its runway. But for almost 10 consecutive seasons, a Saint Jamaican model has graced the runway for the highly selective brand.

Tami’ Williams’ career is managed by Saint International with international partners such as Elite Models (New York), Storm Models (London), WHY NOT (Milan), (Elite) Paris and Uno Barcelona.
