A man was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court last week after he was reportedly surprised and captured by a 43-year-old woman whose house he had broken into after he woke her up early in the morning.

The accused, Tajaye Williams, 19, deliveryman of Washington Gardens in Kingston, was arrested on August 30, at the complainant’s house in Patrick Gardens after police were summoned to the house.

According to the police, on the morning in question around 4:20, Williams broke into the complainant’s house and took two computers, along with a Blackberry cellular phone.

Further allegations are that the accused returned inside the house and went into the complainant’s bedroom. The complainant, who was sleeping, reportedly heard shuffling inside her room, awoke, and saw Williams.

Williams reportedly ran from the room into the kitchen but was chased by the complainant who grabbed him in his neck from behind and held him while he was trying to open the kitchen door.

Other occupants came to assist the complainant who reportedly searched Williams and found her gold-looking chain in his pocket.

The police were summoned and Williams was handed over to them.

When Williams was taken to the station he was told about the items that the complainant had missed, including $49,000 and he reportedly took the police to the rear of the complainant’s house where all of the items were recovered, except for the money which Williams claimed was taken by his accomplice.

Williams, when cautioned, reportedly told the police: “Offica me sorry.”

He was subsequently charged with housebreaking and larceny and conspiracy to burglary and larceny.

On Tuesday when the matter was mentioned, Williams’s lawyer Davian Vassel told Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey that he intended to take a certain course of action but that he needed to peruse the statement. As a result, disclosure was made and Williams was remanded until tomorrow when he will next appear in court.
