Upward murder rate worrying cops
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police say they are seeing “a worrying trend” in murder figures across the island.
Crime statistics show that last week a total of 20 murders were recorded across the island, an assistant commissioner of police told OBSERVER ONLINE.
This would be the third consecutive week that an average of 20 people were killed, the senior cop reported.
“We are watching this trend with some concern and continue to work round the clock to bring down the spiralling crime figures”.
At October 14, reported murders stood at 981.
The country’s murder toll, up to November 21, was 1,107, a 23 per cent increase over the 900 reported for the corresponding period last year.
