All systems go for Supreme Ventures Diamond Mile
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Racing Secretary at Caymanas Track Limited, Denzil Miller, on Monday said all systems are in place for the December 5 staging of the Diamond Mile Race Day at Caymanas Park.
“All systems are go,” the racing secretary said. “Our track staff has been working as usual to ensure all members of the public are comfortable when they get there.”
On the day, the main feature will be the inaugural running of the SVL Diamond Mile Race for a record purse of J$13.5 million for native-bred and imported three-year-olds and upward venturing over 1,600 metres or one mile.
Miller said that preparing for the richest and biggest race ever in the English-speaking Caribbean has been an exciting ride so far.
“[The race is a] welcomed addition to the calendar and we look forward to presenting a race meet like no other,” Miller told Jamaica Observer reporters. “We may very well have a new record for entrants.”
According to Gary Peart, chairman of the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC), the organisers are not only looking to break the record for number of entrants but other records as well.
Peart said the organisers are looking to break the gambling record, which stands at approximately J$57.3 million, as well as bringing back the dress code that exuded the style and elegance once associated with racing in Jamaica.
