Swimmers depart for ASATT invitational
A group of seven swimmers will depart the island today to participate in the highly competitive 2015 staging of the Amateur Swimming Association to Trinidad & Tobago (ASATT)Â Invitational Swimming Championships.
The meet is a long course metre (LCM) competition, same as contested at the CARIFTA level and is usually heavily subscribed as the meet gives a sneak peek at possible CARIFTA adversaries.
 The group  of all national selected candidates comprises Adrian Grant, 13, Sage Sinclair, 12, and Kyle Sinclair, 13, of Blue Seals Swim Club. Also included are Jordane Payne, 13, Chester Adams, 13, and Zaneta Alvaranga, 10, of Y-Speedos Swim Club and Karci Gibson, 12, of Marlins Swim Club.Â
Also swimming at the meet will be Jomo McMayo of Tornadoes Swim Club and Kacy Grant of Blue Seals Swim Club. Both swimmers failed to make the stipulated time for national selction and will instead be swimming under their club banners.
The team will contest the four-day meet in search of both early overseas exposure and some coveted hardware with the early form shown by some of these swimmers over the last two months.
Coach Rory Alvangara and manager Georgia Sinclair are anticipating some good times against their regional counterparts.
Swimming as Team Jamaica for the meet, first-time national representatives Chester Adams, Adrian Grant and young Zaneta Alvaranga are excited to be donning the Jamaica caps.
Zaneta will celebrate her 11th birthday today ahead of departure and will be seeking to celebrate with creditable performances.
 The team is sponsored by the Sports Development Foundation (SDF), with a donation from The Scotia Foundation, while  Alvaranga, the young sensation, is also supported by Burger King.
