This coming election will be the first time that I will be able to vote and so I have spent quite a bit of time trying to decipher the truth from the rhetoric. Unfortunately, I have become a political sceptic.

I spent the last few days reviewing both the prime minister’s and the Opposition leader’s New Year’s messages and wondered if both lived in the same country.

The prime minister, on speaking of the 2015 achievements made under her Administration and gives the sense that we are a part of that improvement. Her speech promoted how her Government will continue to create the conditions for economic growth and job creation. Thousands of new jobs will come on stream this year in the Business Process Outsourcing and call centre sectors and other encouragement for our youth.

The Opposition Leader Andrew Holness took us all on a completely different realm; one of absolute murk and a lot of nothingness. How can we then reasonably figure out if there is a hope for Jamaicans?

Why should I vote for one over the other? And, which one really is being genuinely true to the people?

Surely, there were negative issues of the past, as Holness pointed out, and so too must be encouraging indications for 2016 as per PM Simpson Miller’s message.

My wish is that we could find a happy medium and remove the politics from both and work towards building a better Jamaica.

Regardless of who is right or wrong, my wish is for a year of continued positive transformation for the Jamaican economy and a quick trickle down to our people.

Let’s be confident in a healthier tomorrow and move forward in unity under God as one nation, Jamaica, land we love. Happy 2016!
