Central Hurdles & Relays is back
Central Hurdles & Relays is back and will be on at the newly laid track at GC Foster College on Saturday, January 23 starting from 8:30 am.
It will be the first at the college in 2016. The meet was not held for the past two years during which the track was unavailable due to its overused state. It was also deemed unsafe in some areas.
The meet will feature hurdles for classes, clubs and institutions, 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m for schools, clubs and institutions, selected flat events which are 400m, 200m, 60m and 1,500m for select groups and three field events – long jump, triple jump and high jump for high schools only.
According to Jerry Holness, chairman of the organising committee, “We are very happy to be bringing Central Hurdles and Relays back on track.
During the time when we were not able to have it, the feedback was very positive. We note that several meet organisers added events, especially the hurdles, to their meets in order to make up the shortfall.
“We are looking forward to having all the teams from high schools, clubs and institutions, as well as unattached individuals who competed in the past to return.
We are always looking forward to welcoming new competitors as well.
The meet is always well run, even when there is a shortage of funds and it will be no different this year.” Maurice Wilson, Jamaica’s technical leader, is the meet director.
“We invite all sports-loving and non sportsloving persons to journey to GC Foster College and enjoy the high-level competition which will be on offer throughout the day.
We already have commitment from many top high schools, clubs and institutions and one overseas-based club who plan to take on the competition,” said Holness.
The meet has already attracted sponsorship from Custom Marble and Designs, Creative Sounds, Toyota Jamaica and MILO. It is expected that many more will be on board by the time the meet is held.
