Wadadah break drought in 2-1 beating of Sandals Whitehouse
WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — Former champions Wadadah FC won for the first time in three games in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League after a 2-1 beating of Sandals Whitehouse in Whitehouse, Westmoreland on Tuesday.
Oshane Forbes’ 90th-minute goal snapped a 1-1 deadlock as the St James-based club extended their unbeaten record against Sandals Whitehouse, beating them at home for the second-straight season.
Meanwhile, Petersfield FC maintained their perfect home win record with a 1-0 victory over Salt Marsh United, who were losing back-to-back games.
Petersfield FC, who have won all three games at home, ended the first round tied in the lead in Zone One with Granville FC. Both are on 12 points, but the St James team has the slight edge on goal difference. Montego Bay Boys Club and Salt Marsh are both on nine points, followed by promoted Lucea FC and defending champions Savannah SC on one point each.
Reggae Youths and Clarks Town lead Zone Two with nine points each, one more than Wadadah FC. They are followed by Beaches Negril with seven points, Sandals Whitehouse (five points) and Village United on two points.
Wadadah FC bolstered their team in the January transfer window and Robert Lewis, one of the new players, gave them the lead in the 55th minute.
Akeem Shackleford — who was part of the Jamaica College team that won the Manning Cup, Super Cup and Olivier Shield in the 2014 season, and who started the season with Cavalier SC in the Red Stripe Premier League — pulled the Westmoreland team level in the 82nd minute.
A goal just before the final whistle from Forbes, however, gave Wadadah all three points to add to the 1-0 win they had there last year.
The teams had drawn 0-0 in Montego Bay in the return leg, and Wadadah FC prevailed 3-1 on aggregate when the teams met in the semi-finals.
At Petersfield, Akeem Whyte scored the game’s lone goal in the 28th minute, but was later sent off for “violent conduct” as his team ended the game with 10 players against Salt Marsh United.
