Rivoli, Arnett end 1-1
Reigning champions Arnett Gardens FC had their five-game win streak in the Red Stripe Premier League end after a 1-1 result against 10-man Rivoli United in their encounter at Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.
Ross Burton gave hosts Rivoli the lead in the 10th minute, but Kenniel Hyde rescued a point for Arnett with a goal in the 69th minute.
Burton turned villain when he was red-carded in the 73rd minute for using his hand to strike Arnett Gardens player Marvin Morgan.
The draw took second-placed Arnett Gardens to 39 points, four points behind leaders Portmore United, who clipped Tivoli Gardens FC 1-0.
Rivoli, languishing in relegation danger, are 11th with 19 points.
Burton’s early goal was the only difference between the teams during a first half which lacked quality and intensity.
The visitors, seeking the equaliser, upped the tempo in the second stanz, and were eventually rewarded.
Kemal Malcolm, Arnett’s top marksman this season, was the creator. The speedy player dribbled by two markers before crossing for Hyde to slide home a deserved equaliser.
Burton was sent off minutes later for his indiscretion, but Arnett Gardens were unable to make the numerical advantage count.
