Obama’s charge
The past week will no doubt go down in the annals of history for the slew of meaningful activities that spanned the seven days. Piercing through the overlapping clouds of deaths, earthquake, capture and closures has been the seventh and final State of the Union address by outgoing United States President Barack Obama. Columnists Lance Neita and Ronald Sanders could not resist. Neita says that, like his presidency, he spoke with aplomb, dignity and mastery. He compares his presentation to Norman Manley’s farewell speech to the People’s National Party in 1969, as Obama expressed his deepest concerns and highest visions for his people. Sanders says, with the greying hair and the additional lines on his face, the world saw a president with experience, knowledge and achievement that could not be denied. Read it all in The Agenda.
