Little Mix Get Weird
The five-year old British Girl group Little Mix, has returned with a brand new album and a brand new sound. Get Weird has an entirely different vibe from their first two albums, DNA and Salute. Not that the change is bad, but it’s definitely a bit ‘weird’.Black Magic and Love Me Like You. Then from there I was on the dance floor still shaking pom poms and flashing ponytails. Get Weird is not bad at all. Though, not their regular sound, groups reinvent themselves all the time, and fortunately, this was not an absolute flop.
The British girls seemed, this time around, to have had much consideration for their younger fans. There are far less ‘mature’ songs, and instead more electro/dance/ pop. Basically songs that my 13-year-old sister could listen to, while I paint her nails and we flash our pink pom poms – that’s the kind of vibe the album has.
Regardless of the difference, it seems that the aim was for us to experience the emotional growth of the girls or just the group on a whole. So, the entire album was a roller coaster ride. At one point, I felt like 15 again, jamming to songs like
One aspect, however, that definitely did not change is the girl power theme. There are a few songs that every girl, regardless of age can relate to. And, not only are we able to relate, but feel inspired and proud at the end of the track, proud of our femininity, even as we try to discover it.
Overall,
If you haven’t heard the album yet, you better go check it out and let us know if you agree with all or any of my claims.
