ST MARY, Jamaica — Angry residents of Jacks River in St Mary this morning blocked sections of the Hamilton Mountain road to protest “poor road conditions”.

OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that a section of the Bailey bridge in the community has also been blocked as residents demand that it be replaced.

The residents chained and padlocked an old motor vehicle to the bridge in addition to using stones and other debris to block the bridge.

Councillor for the Gayle Division in St Mary Western, Jason James, told OBSERVER ONLINE that residents are disgruntled over the poor state of the roads in the constituency.

Calls this morning to Member of Parliament Joylan Silvera’s phone went unanswered.

One resident, who identified herself as Tanisha said neither Silvera nor Bruce Farrell, councillor for the Oracabessa Division, have visited the area.

She claimed that marl was dumped on sections of the roadway on Saturday and Sunday after authorities “got word of what residents were planning”.
