Vaz: PNP disintegrating while JLP integrating
OPPOSITION Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz says that while the ruling People’s National Party (PNP) has been disintegrating, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has been integrating.
Vaz told Sunday’s night rally at Jamaica College — to present the wife of the Opposition leader, Juliet Holness, as its candidate for the St Andrew East Rural seat in the next general election — that the presence of a large number of JLP executives at the rally was an example of their unity.
He also discounted the view that he had been returned to the JLP’s shadow cabinet as spokesman on environment as a matter of convenience for party leader, Andrew Holness. Mr Holness informed the JLP’s most recent press briefing last week Monday that Vaz would replace Senator Alexander Williams as the party spokesman on land and the environment.
Vaz has also declared that his recent issues with Holness’s leadership were now behind him in the interest of party unity and the need to wrest state power from the PNP.
“I can tell you one thing, with Juliet Holness and myself and others at his side, the only thing that PNP can do is to fret and that is what they are doing, they are fretting,” Vaz said.
“The PNP goes from crisis to crisis, scandal to scandal and bad government to bad government. Them go from baby scandal, Riverton City dump scandal, prison scandal, bad gas scandal and, at the end of it, nobody is held accountable,” he said.
“Sister P just stand one side and she watch and she watch and the more she watch is the worse it gets. Is the wickedest, the most uncaring, insensitive, incompetent government that we have ever seen,” Vaz said.
“Remember Peter Phillips put us on election alert for 2015, and Sister P took the bait and never know seh a undermine him a undermine her, to get her out. And guess what happened? Sister P called the horse, weigh the horse, weigh the jockey, check the saddle and carry the horse down to the gate and you know what happen? When the horse go to the gate and see Andrew Holness on his horse, the horse bolt… a late non-starter,” he stated.
“All I say to you, from today to whenever it is called, we will be on the ground doing the work because the only way that we can be successful is if you the people — the workers, candidates and supporters of the labour party — bring out every single vote,” he concluded.
