This one-legged man, Alton Smilie, better known as ‘Onie’, paused to play a tune, as he hopped up the very long and winding road to the burial spot to get a glimpse of Dr Ucal Thompson, whose body was being interred in the family plot in Bogue Hill, Montego Bay last Saturday. “If is even 25 hours it tek me fi reach deh, mi ago reach. A doc that, mi boss,” Smilie said. A thanksgiving service for the life of Dr Thompson, a prominent medical practitioner and former politician who died last month, was held earlier at the King’s Seventh Day Adventist Church in Montego Bay.
