Marketing companies need to speak about bad gas — UCASE
KINGSTON, Jamaica — President of the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), Vincent Morrison has joined the call for marketing companies to come to the table with the retailers on the bad gas issue.
He was speaking a short while ago at an emergency general meeting of the Jamaica Gasoline Retailers Association (JGRA) attended by various stakeholders in the public passenger transportation and haulage sectors.
“The marketing companies should come forward, sit down with the JGRA (and) step to the plate in the interest of Jamaica,” Morrison stated.
However, he quickly made it clear that he was not intimating that the marketing companies are liable in the bad gas saga, but argued that by the process of elimination “we should be able to identify the source”.
He also said going through the court-system for compensation is a “no-no” as unless special arrangements are made, cases could go on for protracted periods.
The meeting was called by the JGRA to arrive at a position on changes that all affected parties want to be made in the sector to stem any repeat of widespread gasoline contamination and other ills affecting the trade and ultimately motorists.
The meeting is now in session at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.
