It is with deep regret that I write to express my utmost repugnance at Member of Parliament Everald Warmington for again placing himself in the spotlight for yet another offence in just under six months.

Prior to the latest incident in which he referred to Minister of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna as a “jezebel” while expressing his disgust regarding the minimum wage increase, he experienced backlash in August 2015 when he was rude to a newspaper intern then within days, flipping his middle finger to reporters and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters who were gathered outside the party’s headquarters in Kingston.

It is clear that Warmington may be too hot to handle with his deep-seated temper accompanied by his loutish and churlish behaviour which seems to surface when he is dissatisfied about any issue being discussed. Whether he’s a hard worker or not, he obviously lacks the self-control to respond with decency to difficult questions and situations. In addition, he seemingly lacks the capacity to deal with variances and disagreements and continues to add a wealth of unpleasant triumphs to his uncouth résumé.

As such, it is my belief that the House leader should implement a “naughty corner” for parliamentarians who behave like undisciplined children. When they misbehave, they should immediately be escorted to this location where they stand, place their fingers on their lips, reflect on their awful deed, and be stripped of their ability to speak for the rest of the week. For every day of the week they should report to Parliament and stand in that corner without any chance to give any sort of input. After the week has elapsed, they should offer an apology, after which they can again participate in meaningful discussions on the country’s affairs.

It is also time that the Leader of the Opposition Andrew Holness takes a stand and not be wishy-washy about his standards and discipline regarding the disrespectful and condescending behaviour displayed by his MPs.
