One killed in Denham Town operation, two injured

A 50-year-old man was Wednesday night fatally shot during a joint police-military operation in Golden Heights, Denham Town, Kingston.

The dead man has been identified as Thomas Gordon, alias ‘Jimmy’. Two others, a man and a woman, were injured during the shooting.

The police’s Corporate Communications Unit reported that the man was killed during a confrontation with members of the military.

Police claimed that a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol and a fake firearm were seized during the incident.

Residents have, however, contested the police’s report on the matter.

“The man was killed in cold blood; at 50 year old the man wasn’t involved [in any wrongdoing],” said one resident.

Police say the matter has since been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations, which has already started its probe into the incident.
