Much was expected from the barn of the talented Mom’s Student after the chestnut filly captured the Jamaica Oaks over 10 furlongs last year.

However, after flashes of brilliance, the Fitzroy Glispie-trained Mom’s Student went off the boil, finishing down the track in cheaper races.

Mom’s Student then showed signs of returning to form when she finished a close second to Sir Budget over 1,100 metres on May 11.

With that run, she came back on June 4 and registered her first win in over a year after beating non-winners of three horses over 1,100 metres.

Glispie then stepped her up to 1,800 metres one week later and she turned in a good performance and romped home by nine-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:53:4 minutes to make it two wins back-to-back.

Returning last Saturday with Hakeem Pottinger in the saddle in the upper grade of Overnight Allowance over 1,820 metres,

Mom’s Student went in front, and although challenged a bit by All Correct at the top of the lane, the chestnut filly by Region Of Merit – The Principal just accelerated and powered home to score by three lengths in a decent 1:55:1 minutes to register her third consecutive victory from eight starts this season.

Glispie said that all is well with his charge.

“Her (Mom’s Student) problems are now over. We have taken a little time with her correcting the issues, and now that all is well with her, I am expecting much more from her. She is on top of her game right now,” Glispie told theComplete Racing Guide.

“Well, I am very happy with her performance. I was expecting this victory based on her performance from her last race where she won by over nine lengths going 1,800 metres. She is a very nice horse who is on the improve. The time was very good.

“The plan coming into the race was to go in front and watch the other runners keenly and increase the pace leaving the half-mile, and that was what the rider did,” said Glispie.
