Theft at substation results in widespread power outage — JPS
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Public Service JPS) says that a power outage that is affecting approximately 2,000 people in sections of St Catherine, St Mary, and St Ann is due to theft of oil from the Blackstonedge substation in St Catherine
In a release this afternoon, JPS said that following the outage at the substation this morning, a visit by their team found evidence of oil theft from the transformer that is integral to the efficient operation of the substation.
“Work to repair the transformer has begun, however, restoration efforts are expected to continue throughout the day,” JPS stated in the release.
In the meantime, JPS has reported that the following areas will be without power supply:
St Catherine: Guys Hill, Tavern Hill, Benbow, Devil’s Race Course, Bonnet, Corner Rest, Waterford, Seafield, Spring Field, Hartland Road, Golden Grove, Decoy, Clifford District, Carron Hall, Caanan, Lime Hall, Mews and Ragsville.
St Mary: Palmeto Grove, Windsor, Woodside, Pear Tree Grove, Louisiana, Montreal, Change Hill, New Works, Clay Land, Belle Hill, Blue Gatel and White Spring.
St Ann: Blackstonedge, Middlesex, Wallenford, Turnberry, Grey Wood, White Hall, Castle Kelly, Tindale.
