Constant Spring Road work to last until Monday
Commuters in Kingston will continue to experience traffic delays on Constant Spring Road in the vicinity of Marketplace for another two days, as work to repair a collapsed sewer line continues.
According to the National Works Agency’s Communication and Customer Service Manager Stephen Shaw, the work is expected to be completed by Monday.
On Thursday the line collapsed, resulting in a huge hole in the road. Traffic snarls dogged the travelling public for most of the day as police deployed extra personnel to the area and to critical intersections nearby.
Yesterday, traffic moved slowly along the corridor as well as on detour routes.
“We are trying our best to deal with it. We have persons at the [traffic] lights,” Acting Head of the Police Traffic Division Courtney Coubre told the Jamaica Observer.
Yesterday, Shaw said the workmen had to dig some 20 feet below ground as they were working on a live sewer line.
“We are hopeful that they will be able to complete this aspect of the road not before too long, so that the road reinstatement effort can begin and we are in a position to return the corridor to normal use by Monday,” Shaw said.
At the same time, Shaw said that work is currently underway on a section of Gordon Town Road that collapsed prior to the rain associated with Hurricane Matthew that pelted sections of the island earlier this week.
