Super athlete Usain Bolt, Jermaine Gonzales and former national players Ricardo “Bibi” Gardner, Walter Boyd, Ian “Pepe” Goodison and Gregory Messam are set to feature at the 30th Bell/Ziadie charity football match between Masters and Celebrities at Winchester Park on Monday, Heroes’ Day.

Over 30 players are expected to take part in what is billed as a fun day of activities.

Chief organiser Clive “Busy” Campbell made the announcement at the press launch at Cuddyz Sports Bar and Restaurant yesterday. The Masters and Celebrities organising committee declare that it will honour Kenneth “Bop” Campbell, the former Santos and national player; Peter Prendergast, the former FIFA referee; Orville Edwards, the former Santos and national player; and the former St George’s College and national right back Leighton Hue.

The Bell/Ziadie get-together is held each year in commemoration of two outstanding Jamaican football icons — Dennis Ziadie and Jackie Bell — both of whom lost their lives in a vehicular crash during the 1986 World Cup tournament in Mexico. Proceeds from the match will be in aid of basic schools and children’s homes islandwide.

Kingston and St Andrew Football Association Vice-President Carvel Stewart lauded Campbell and his committee for sustaining the annual football extravaganza in honour of the two former football coaches.

“I must start by commending “Busy” for continuing to do this thing year after year after year, and “Busy” you have to be honoured. I do not know who is going to do it. Perhaps we can surprise him one of these Heroes’ Days. It is truly remarkable; thirty years of anything is a remarkable accomplishment”.
