Marcus Garvey Drive delays
Motorists travelling to Portmore, St Catherine, along Marcus Garvey Drive are to expect delays for the next two days. This delay stems from road work currently being carried out on the road, specifically the west-bound carriageway heading to Portmore Toll.
According to a press release from the National Works Agency (NWA), the section of the roadway that will be impacted is between East Avenue and the Total Gas Station in the vicinity of the Shoemaker Gully.
Manager, communication and customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw said that the closure, is necessary to facilitate the lifting of that section of road. Some sections of thoroughfare will be lifted to as much as three feet high.
Throughout this period of the closure, westbound traffic will be diverted to the east-bound lane, which will be shared by motor vehicles heading in both directions.
NWA is, therefore, advising motorists to obey the posted warning signs and instructions of the flagmen during the period of the closure.
Earlier this month, the NWA was forced to close Marcus Garvey Drive in an effort to mitigate the likelihood of flooding during the passage of Hurricane Matthew.
