Green outraged by murder of two children in Hanover
KINGSTON, Jamaica — State Minister in the Ministry of Education Youth and Information Floyd Green, is expressing dismay and anger following the killing of two children in Williamsfield, Hanover last night.
The two children were among six people shot when gunmen attacked two separate households in the community. One man also died in the incident.
The deceased have been identified as 34-year-old Hopeton Lee, five-year-old Kimani Johnson and one-year-old Daquan Davidson.
“Today is another sad day in the history of our country; these wanton callous and senseless acts of violence against our children must be brought to an end. As a society we cannot sit back and allow this to be the new norm and the Police must move swiftly in apprehending the perpetrators of this brutal act. Someone knows who committed this act and must give the information to the police; these villains must have nowhere to hide” Green said.
According to the minister, a team of CDA First Responders are currently on the scene assessing the situation and are working with the other children in the family.
“The CDA will be providing counselling support to the children and the family members have been referred to the Victim Services Division which will provide counselling support as needed,” he said.
Green noted that yesterday, the Joint Select Committee of Parliament was reconvened to examine harsher penalties for those who harm children.
“My sincerest condolences to the family and to the children who were present at the time of the incident to have seen this horrible act unfold, we will be working with the family to provide welfare support,” the minister said.
