Weekly Round-up: Reparation before repatriation… Scotia’s $5000 change costs $385… Don Creary freed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The demands of an enraged British parliamentarian that Jamaica allows its natives incarcerated in the UK to complete their sentences here or pay the expenses of their imprisonment in that country drew the ire of OBSERVER ONLINE readers this week.See link for stories below:
Angry readers readers thought the UK government owed Jamaica billions of dollars for slavery and should pay up before making such demands, while others expressed that deportation of criminals is inevitable so the Government should work on a prison deal with the UK.
Meanwhile, on Thursday it was reported that Scotiabank Jamaica is charging a $385 fee to change a $5,000 note into smaller denominations. OBSERVER ONLINE this week confirmed complaints filed by customers last month, but efforts to get a response on when the fee hike became effective proved futile.
In other news, Don Creary on Thursday walked out of the Home Circuit Court a free man after the complainant in the matter indicated to the court that she no longer wishes to go any further with the matter.
