Braeton cop D-2 title, gain promotion to D-1
Former Super League outfit Braeton United snatched the 2016/2017 York Pharmacy Portmore Football League (PFL) Division Two title by edging Southboro FC 2-1 in a keenly contested final at the Cedar Grove Sports Complex in Portmore, St Catherine, recently.
Shannon Richards gave Braeton the lead in the 15th minute, and this was backed up by an own goal in the 21st minute.
Southboro got a consolation in the 39th minute courtesy of ace striker Rudolph Bright.
A satisfied Braeton Head Coach Newton Morgan said that he was overjoyed with the victory and he happy for the community.
“I am overwhelmed with joy [as] the community is pleased to see that the former Super League team is now on its way back up the football ladder. In 2001 the team was relegated from Division One and has been struggling since then, [but] everything seems bright now and Braeton United are now looking forward to begin to prepare for the Division One competition,” he said.
With their Division Two title triumph, Braeton have gained promotion to the St Catherine FA Division One for next season.
