Phillips not about camera lights
PHILLIPS... we can't be in a country where a man feels a sense of pride by having five baby mothers

Phillips not about camera lights

Dear Editor,

I was recently visiting the children’s ward at Savanna-la-Mar Public Hospital when I came upon a group of people, among them was Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips. It appeared he and the group were there to give gifts to the children and the hospital. It seems that someone thought that the gift-giving by Dr Phillips needed to be captured on camera and no doubt be made available to the public, whether by formal or social media.I was standing close enough to witness for myself as Dr Phillips walked over to the individuals with the camera and firmly and politely ask them not to record the visit as he had no intention of allowing anyone to use the children nor the occasion of their illness as politics. He made it clear that he was only visiting the children since he was in the hospital to speak with the adminstrators as part of his “Listening Tour” and had no interest in making this part of his visit a media event. While the camera crew relented, I felt it necessary to write to the editor because, in that single moment, Dr Phillips, who was already a man of great integrity and admiration, became a giant of a man in my eyes.I wish to say to Dr Peter Phillips that this country needs more men of honour and valour like you. I wish you all the best in your pursuit.
