We want Internet!
Dear Editor,
This summer will make ten years since my family has lived in Windsor Heights, St Catherine; just out by White Marl. For just as long we have been doing what we can to access the Internet at home. It has been a most cumbersome ordeal. We have tried the Digicel dongle as well as the prepaid service of Dekal Wireless. These, however, have been terribly inefficient and costly. For example, if you pay for a day’s service you would be fortunate to have an accumulated two hours of use, whilst not getting one hour of uninterrupted use. This inconvenience not only hampers recreational use of the Internet, but is inhibitory to productive work. I have had to resort to leaving home every single time I need to do some research or complete an assignment. Transportation from White Marl to Mona for such purposes is a headache. One may suggest the use of mobile service; however, barring its gross inefficiency in speed and connectivity there are some tasks that cannot be left to the processing power, limited agility, and tiny screen of a cellphone. There is already cable service on the hill, but we dreadfully need the convenience of the Internet in our homes. We are a massive suburb with productive and profitable young minds who would love to be brought into the now.I am appealing to the telecoms providers to respond to our plight and bring us the Internet.
