A man who confessed to damaging his children’s mother’s clothes had his bail extended when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish on Friday.Derrick Rose was brought before the court to answer to charges of malicious destruction of property and assault at common law.Allegations are that on May 15, Rose slapped the complainant, who is also vendor, across her face, damaged her clothing, and spilled soap powder.Rose admitted to damaging the clothes, but denied hitting the complainant.“I slapped at her but it did not catch her,” Rose said.Parish Judge Chester Crooks asked the complainant if it was the first time he had hit her.“No,” the woman replied, adding that they had been in a relationship for over 20 years.“What do you want me to do with him?” the judge asked the woman.“I want him to pay for them,” she replied, adding that the items valued $50,000.Crooks asked: “You have that sir?”“I don’t have that. I only have $5,000 and I washed out the clothes,” Rose replied.The woman, while noting that she moved out, told the court that she was told by their children that the clothes were washed.“When I went around there for a jacket I saw them one side.The sum of $10,000 was subsequently paid in court and a July 26 date set for the balance to be paid.
