BEGINNING with the hosting of an exciting movie night and Internet experience for the children and employees at the Nest Children’s Home on Manning’s Hill Road in Kingston, Digicel Play set in motion its plans to connect more of these homes to the Internet in order to provide wholesome entertainment, while improving learning opportunities for the young ones.

Marketing Manager at Digicel Play Tahnida Nunes sees this as a necessary move, using digital technology to transform the way children learn and play.

“All children deserve to enjoy all the comforts of a loving home, whether they are living in a state-run facility or otherwise,” said Nunes. “Often times, this could be something simple like a movie night with some popcorn and juice but when you think about it, it would really mean so much to them. We need to just remember that we are all responsible for Jamaica’s children and we all have a part to play in the quality of life that they are afforded.”

In addition to an evening spent watching the hit movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Digicel Play, along with partners ENG Global and Innovative Signs, gifted the home with a brand new 42-inch LED TV, as well as free Internet, Digital TV and telephone service for one year. To top that off, the institution will also receive a lifetime discount of 50 per cent off Digicel Play services.

Major Barbara Forrester, administrator for The Nest, was overjoyed at the donation to the home. She said: “We are so very grateful and blessed to receive this kind of help. Sometimes, after taking care of all the other expenses at the home, we don’t find ourselves left over with much to pay for things like cable and Internet, so this really means a lot to us. In the four years that I have been here, no one has ever made us an offer like this. So while we were surprised, we’re even more thankful that a company like Digicel is looking out for us.”

The Nest, which is run by the Salvation Army, is home to 30 children ages 6 to 17.

She continued: “Having a TV with cable and Internet at the home is something all of us are excited about. The children don’t go out that often so it’s a huge comfort to them and having the Internet here will also help them with their homework and so on.”
