GEORGETOWN, Guyana —The Jamaican Boys copped third place at the finals of the 2017 Caribbean Area Squash Associations’ (CASA) Junior Championships in Georgetown, Guyana over the weekend.

Things got off to a good start as the Jamaicans kicked off the competition with a 3-2 victory over Cayman.  However, the team then faced a major setback when they were beaten 2-3 by both Bermuda and Guyana, and then suffered a 1-4 loss at the hands of Barbados.

With the hope of a top three finish slipping from their grasp, the Jamaicans rebounded to beat Trinidad 3-2 and claw their way back into contention.  The victory left the team tied with Cayman; but with 11 wins overall, compared to Cayman’s 10, the Jamaicans prevailed and took the number three spot.

Team captain Tahjia Lumley accentuated Jamaica’s achievement by winning the tournament’s Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.  With the honour, Lumley, the reigning All Jamaica Under-19 Champion, ended the regional tournament on a high, having placed third in the individual age group segment, which preceded the team competition.
