Is the PNP really for renewal?
Dear Editor,
The current People’s National Party (PNP) effort to replace the Member of Parliament for St Andrew South Western Portia Simpson Miller has becomes the front page of social media.
This current issue has awoken a lot of young people who are looking at the PNP and its current leadership.
In 2016 members of the PNP called for a process of renewal in the party. But can members of the party now trust Dr Peter Philips to lead this renewal process after not coming out publicly to address the current St Andrew South Western issue?
It is now clear that the PNP is divided once again. This time it’s: Team Renewal vs Team Old Socialist. The PNP needs to get back to the visions of the late Norman W Manley and his son Michael. Both men have set a platform of visions for the PNP and its generations to come, but this seems to have been destroyed by division inside the party.
Until the PNP finds back its true position in Jamaica and reaffirms the visions of its founder Norman Manley, through a renewal process, it will continue to lose support from this generation and will be in Opposition for a very long time.
