MONTEGO BAY, St James — Cambridge United and Club Ville have taken the lead in their St James Football Association Guardian Group Division Two first-leg semi-finals played at the UDC field last weekend.

Cambridge United lead Iberostar FC by two goals, winning Friday’s first game 3-1, while a day later Club Ville edged Rose Mount 1-0, going into the return legs set for next week.

In addition to qualifying for the final, the winners on aggregate in the semi-finals will also earn promotion to the Division One competition next season.

On Friday, Cambridge United led 3-0 before Ibero Star managed to pull a goal back and cut the deficit.

Anthony Brown gave Cambridge United the lead in the first half and O’brien Bent made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute when he was sent through and beat the Iberostar FC goalkeeper Norlan Thompson with a ferocious shot from the edge of the 18-yard area.

Jermaine Francis, who was brought on the field just minutes earlier, made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute, when he converted from the penalty spot.

Garel Gooden pulled one back for Iberostar when he curled a free kick past Cambridge United’s goalkeeper Andre Pusey in the 75th minute.

On Saturday, in a game played in wet and muddy conditions, Omar Shaw’s powerful header just before half time, was the difference between the teams.

Shaw, a brother to national senior team coach Theodore Whitmore, headed in a corner kick past the Rose Mount goalkeeper in the 41st minute.
