Frustrated St Thomas resident
A disgruntled St Thomas resident is demanding answers from the National Water Commission (NWC) after repeatedly receiving meter readings on monthly bills, despite not having a meter on her premises or access to tap water.
Deon Green, a resident of Dalvey, St Thomas, wrote to the Jamaica Observer North & East expressing frustration about the absence of water for months in her home and the readings for “non-existent” meters.
According to Green, is widely known that some houses in the Top House Housing Scheme and surrounding areas have not been receiving water from NWC.
“The district gets no water whether or not the pump is working due to elevation. It is also common knowledge that some NWC customers are on a flat rate and haven’t been given a meter. Being one of those unmetered customers, can the NWC explain why there is meter reading on my bill each month? Also, who is being paid to read and submit readings for these non-existent meters?” the woman questioned.
The woman claims that for the past three months she has not received water in her home, but has received bills for said months.
“Over the past three months not one drop of water has come to my home at Top House, but the bill keeps coming. Despite a request for truck water since July 13 from the Morant Bay office, nothing has happened,” she shared.
She told North & East that an NWC representative informed her that she was “paying for the service,” despite not receiving it.
“Could any in the hierarchy of the NWC make an effort to address the situation? Many are being asked to pay for this questionable service.
“My plea in this case is for water, not service, as many have been paying for this service,” Green said.
