Dear Editor,

The old boys’ associations of Calabar High School, Jamaica College, Kingston College, St George’s College, and Wolmer’s Boys’ extend condolence to the family of the late Mickolle Moulton — the 17-year-old student of Meadowbrook High School who was recently murdered.

We share the pain of her family and friends as well as that of the Meadowbrook High School fraternity as we have lost another of our youth to the violence and cold-heartedness that has pervaded our society.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with Mickolle’s younger sister who suffered injury in the attack; we trust that she will have a speedy and full recovery.

Much work needs to be done by the citizens of our country to stop such acts of unkindness. In recent times we have lost several of our children in unfortunate and abhorrent circumstances, and we must at all times remember that our youth are the future of our country. We all need to see it as our responsibility to nurture and protect them as they grow into adulthood. Thomas Paine said “Youth is the seed time of good habits, as well in nations as in individuals.”

Being aware of the social and resource challenges experienced in managing our respective schools and in raising our students, we stand together strongly united in support of our colleagues, brothers and sisters of Meadowbrook High School.

We have lost another of our stars and must take this seriously and do things differently to effect positive changes in our society.
