Emerging dancehall singer DRD is determined to make a career in the music business.

He has two songs in rotation, Mama and Wine Slow. The latter was recently released on the Progressive rhythm.

“Wine Slow is more dancehall and is geared towards the females in dancehall, but not in a disrespectful manner because we can speak about hardcore things without being disrespectful,” he told Jamaica Observer. “Mama is a conscious record which pays attention to the importance of women in society and respecting women.”

DRD said he knows he has the talent for his music to reach the highest heights.

“Growing up in Montego Bay is not easy for any youngster. The cost of living is high and you get easily distracted by everything you see. But you have to strong willed. Just say no to scamming and no to crime and focus on positive things. When a man a pass and a flash jewel and a drive inna the hottest car I never feel like I am jealous because I literally feel like my music is good enough for me to achieve all I want to. So as it relates to scamming and them thing deh I don’t get pulled in that direction because I am already too focused on my goals to allow myself to be tangled in a web like that,” he said.

DRD (given name Dave Roy Davy) hails from Montego Bay in St James. He attend Thompson Town High in Clarendon.

“So I basically traveled back and forth between St James and Clarendon until I finally moved there after leaving school,” he said. “Growing up in Montego Bay, I always had a passion for music. It’s weird how music can make you just zone out of the real world and just focus pon positive things and just feel optimistic. I would advice any youth to get a hobby and work on it and see how it does wonders for your life.”
