O-Wrap: Suspect charged with Pottinger’s murder… Irma wreaks havoc in C’bean… Two more hurricanes formed

1. Suspect in Dexter Pottinger’s murder charged

The Constant Spring Police have charged the man who was implicated in the killing of 34-year-old fashion designer Dexter Pottinger, whose body was found at his home at Yarico Place, Kingston 20 last Thursday. Full story here

2. Irma wreaks havoc in C’bean

The powerful Hurricane Irma roared through the Caribbean today, destroying homes and flooding streets across a chain of small islands in the north. At least one death was confirmed in Barbuda while France reported that two people died and two sustained serious injuries in St Martin and St Barts. 3. Digicel gives customers free anywhere minutes for Irma

With the potential threat of Hurricane Irma on several islands across the Caribbean, Digicel today announced that it is providing its customers in the affected markets with free call credit to communicate with their loved ones throughout the hurricane. Full story here

4. Gov’t helping J’cans in Turks and Caicos as Hurricane #Irma looms

Hurricane Katia has formed in the Gulf off the coast of Mexico with sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph). Full story here

6. 19 employees cut as Supreme Ventures restructures

Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) this afternoon announced that it has completed its six-month operational assessment and has decided to retain 321 of its staff members and separate with 19. Full story here

7. Holness assessing damage caused by Hurricane #Irma in C’bean

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says contact is being made with prime ministers in Caribbean countries, which have been affected by Hurricane Irma, to ascertain the damage caused by the Category 5 storm. Full story here

8. Revolver found on open lot in Mount Salem ZOSO

The joint forces in Mount Salem reportedly found a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum revolver at an open lot on Piggott Street in the wee hours of this morning. Full story here

9. Usain Bolt Foundation partners with JN Foundation to help elderly in Trelawny

Olympic and world champion, Usain Bolt, through his foundation, has partnered with the Jamaica National (JN) Foundation, to host the third staging of the Heroes in Action Run/Walk. Full story here

10. Proposed September 17 start date for RSPL

There is a proposal to have the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) start on September 17 following a fiery meeting of the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) that also saw the referees compensated, while Montego Bay United’s president, Orville Powell, unknowingly walked out. Full story here
