It has been quite a while since racegoers will have the unique opportunity of seeing seven of racing’s top sprinters face off in a trophy race.

That’s the situation for tomorrow’s None Such Trophy over probably the ideal trip for sprinters — six furlongs (1,200m).

The winner of the None Such will quite rightly take on the mantle of the island’s quickest.

The Supreme Racing Guide assesses the seven runners in the None Such in post-position order, acutely aware that at stake is also those vital dollars necessary for participation in the December Diamond Mile.

HOUDINI’S MAGIC — This is a new, reinvigorated and now front- running Houdini’s Magic. Gone are the come-from-behind runs for second or third; instead, the magic from “Houdini” emanates from in front, so too the wins — two straight from his last two outings. In the Eros Trophy (seven furlongs) on July 15, Houdini’s Magic outsped the very consistent Campesino in the top class before stepping down and easily winning over seven and a half furlongs. Tomorrow Houdini’s Magic races over his shortest trip in quite a while, but drawn at one with the gate master, Wesley Henry in the saddle, it will take a brave punter not to support this offspring of Performing Magic – Milestone. Houdini’s Magic is better off at the handicaps when compared with Campesino, with the only consideration being the distance. Houdini’s Magic is one of the most improved horses in training who can sit near the pace before striking when necessary.

CHACE THE GREAT — With three wins in succession from his last three races, Chace The Great has been transformed since wearing the one-cup blinkers. Chace The Great might need a bit of time to really catch the pace at the top level, but he is fit, he is light, and even without Wesley Henry in the saddle, he packs sufficient class to win this one and is assisted by the apprentice claiming two kilogrammes.

CAMPESINO — Won well over the five straight on July 29 when leaving behind the likes of Seeking My Dream and Gary Glitter. Now Campesino meets Houdini’s Magic on worse terms after finishing over three lengths behind when the two last met, but the distance might be in his favour now.

SIR BUDGET — Coming to come but not ready for these as yet.

GARY GLITTER — Has improved quite well since the start of this year. Gary Glitter put in a clinker in his last race on August 26 when finishing ninth, over seven lengths, behind Chace The Great. The erstwhile gentlemen of the handicapping committee have come up with a stunner for this. In the August 26 race, Chace The Great carried 119 lbs; tomorrow he goes with 109 lbs, which is 10 lbs less not considering the claim by the apprentice. Now Gary Glitter, who on August 26 carried 117 lbs and tasted defeat by over seven lengths, is down to carry 115 lbs, two pounds less. If Gary Glitter wins the None Such, it will be nothing short of a racing miracle, which, of course, is known to happen every now and again, even despite the machinations of the handicappers.

TALENTED TONY K — Ran a bad race on July 29 over the five straight against Campesino, Seeking My Dream and Gary Glitter. Talented Tony K is fast and is going to flash for the lead as he knows no different. More than likely, when Talented Tony K comes under pressure in the straight he will leave the scene. Will have an effect on the outcome of this one.

SEEKING MY DREAM — This is not the same Seeking My Dream as last year. Seems to be struggling to find his best form with the only thing going for him in this race being the outside post position.
