LONDON United Kingdom (AFP) — James Anderson took the best innings figures of his Test career as England were set a target of just 107 to win a three-match series against West Indies 2-1 at Lord’s on Saturday.

Anderson, who on Friday had become the first England bowler and just the sixth overall to take 500 Test wickets, finished with seven for 42 in 20.1 overs as West Indies were dismissed for 177 after lunch on the third day.

Anderson’s return just surpassed his seven for 43 against New Zealand at Trent Bridge in 2008.

It was the fifth time in his 129-Test career career that Anderson had taken five or more wickets in a Test innings at Lord’s.

That left Anderson joint-second in that list alongside England fast-bowling great Fred Trueman, with ex-England all-rounder Ian Botham’s eight five-wickets in innings hauls the most anyone has taken in Tests at ‘the home of cricket’.

Shai Hope, whose twin hundreds were the backbone of West Indies’ series-levelling win at Headingley, top-scored in this innings with 62.

But no other batsman made more than opener Kieran Powell’s 45.

Now there was every chance, barring a severe weather interruption, that this match could end inside three days given there were a minimum of 61 overs left in Saturday’s play alone.

England won the series opener, the inaugural day/night Test in Britain, by an innings and 209 runs inside three days at Edgbaston last month.
