Three more handguns found in Mount Salem ZOSO
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) Joint Force has recovered another three firearms in the Mount Salem ZOSO, as the search for guns and gunmen continues in the area.
The guns — a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol and two home made handguns — join a high powered AK47 assault rifle, which was found earlier today, bringing to four, the number of firearms found in the past 12 hours in Mount Salem, St James.
The ZOSO Communication Unit reported that the joint forces conducted a snap raid about 1:15 pm at a property on Piggott Street.
According to the unit, the .9mm Sig Sauer was found in a garbage pile, wrapped in a black plastic bag during the search. Two lead sheets used in the illegal lotto scamming trade were also discovered with the firearm, leading the team to extend the search for even more contraband.
Minutes later, two homemade handguns were also found on the same property.
“Searches are ongoing and are expected to continue into the night as the ZOSO joint forces step up their search operations,” the unit said.
According to ZOSO Communications Officer, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, the soldiers and police working in Mount Salem are “extremely motivated and encouraged by today’s weapon finds, and have pledged to press on with the search operations even more vigorously”.
She is also encouraging members of the public to continue to report illegal guns and criminal activity to Crime Stop at 311 and is reminding persons that rewards are being offered for information leading to the recovery of guns as follows: $150,000 for rifles, $100,000 for semi-automatic and $75,00.00 for revolvers.
