ATL, Scotiabank ‘A’ secure wins in business house netball

APPLIANCE Traders Limited (ATL) and Scotiabank ‘A’ registered comfortable wins in their respective Senior ‘A’/’B’ League encounters as the 2017 Business House Netball Association (BHNA) competition continued at Leila Robinson Courts on Thursday evening.

The ATL aggregation, coached by Sasher-Gaye Henry, defeated Urban Development Corporation (UDC) 47-24. It was their fifth win from six matches as they remain in contention for a place in the play-off round.

ATL completely took control of the match from as early as the first quarter where they led 14-3. The Sylvester ‘Chris’ Campbell-coached UDC failed to contain the shooting of ATL’s Shenova Edwards and captain Shian Gonzales and they trailed 25-12 at the interval.

Edwards and Gonzales were given good support from centre court players Sherika Dixon, Conique Moore and Natasha Williamson, while defenders Kaneila Riley and Monique Emery limited their opposing shooters, Nekeisha Cohen and Keisha Cohen from scoring too many goals.

With a 35-19 lead at the third- quarter break, ATL had full control of the match, and dominated their opponents throughout by scoring a further 12 goals with only seven against in the final quarter.

Edwards scored 26 goals, while her teammate Gonzales got 12 goals. For UDC, Nekeisha Cohen scored 14 goals and Kiesha Cohen got seven goals.

In the feature match, Scotiabank ‘A’ had a hard-fought 43-37 win over National Housing Trust (NHT) ‘A’. Scotiabank ‘A’ were scoring their seventh win from as many starts, while it was the first defeat for NHT ‘A’ of the season.

NHT ‘A’ applied the pressure early on the bankers to lead 12-7 at the first break. Scotiabank ‘A’ rallied well in the second quarter to gain a slim 18-17 lead at half-time.

It was still a wide open game as they approached the third-quarter start, but Open League champions Scotiabank ‘A’ produced their usual fast attacks to go clear at 34-27. The Winston Nevers-coached Scotiabank ‘A’ maintained their grip to win an exciting match against the Christopher Smart-coached women.

Tennisha Bernard with 27 goals led the way for Scotiabank ‘A”, while Crystal Grant with 23 goals was the main scorer for UDC.

Scotiabank ‘B’ came out with an exciting 43-42 win over Sagicor Life ‘A’. For the bankers, Suzette DeSouza scored 35 goals from 42 attempts and Tanisha Hibbert with eight from 11 attempts, while Aneika Thompson scored 35 goals from 46 attempts and Karen Kidd with 7 from eight attempts.
