Four convicted of conspiracy in 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse
A Florida court on Friday found four men guilty of conspiracy in the assassination of former Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, according to American media reports.
ABC News reported that Arcangel Pretel Ortiz, Antonio Intriago, Walter Veintemilla and James Solages were convicted of plotting to kill or kidnap Moïse and of providing material support for the operation.
The men were also found guilty of violating the United States (US) Neutrality Act and could face life imprisonment.
US prosecutors allege that South Florida was used as a central location for planning and financing the assassination, as well as efforts to install a replacement leader chosen by the conspirators.
Five other individuals previously pleaded guilty in the case and are currently serving life sentences.
Moïse was fatally shot at his residence in Port-au-Prince on July 7, 2021.
