Wanted men killed in St Catherine, St James
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The police have reported that two wanted men were fatally shot during confrontations with the police in St Catherine and St James yesterday.
Two firearms and several rounds of ammunition were also seized.
Dead are 23-year-old Raheem Chantiloupe of Portmore in St Catherine and 21-year-old Daniel Whittaker, otherwise called ‘Dan Dan’ of Salt Spring, St James.
In the first incident, police were reportedly on foot patrol in Naggo Head, St Catherine when Chantiloupe allegedly opened gunfire at them. The police returned fire and he was shot. A .380 semi-automatic pistol along with seven 9mm rounds of ammunition was seized.
Chantiloupe was charged with the February 2012 murder of Shaun Preddie in Naggo Head, St Catherine.
Meanwhile in the second incident, Whittaker was shot during an alleged confrontation with the police about 3:50 pm, in the Bottom Melbourne area of Salt Spring, St James. A team of police officers was reportedly conducting an operation in the community when they were fired on by gunmen who were fleeing the scene. The gunfire was returned.
A Smith and Wesson Springfield pistol loaded with nine 9mm rounds was reportedly taken from Whittaker.
Whittaker, who was a top-tier member of the G-City gang in Salt Spring in St James, was wanted for questioning in relation to several murders in the parish.
Both incidents are now being probed by the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
