Shaw scores hat-trick as Man City reclaim WSL top spot
Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw scored a hat-trick as Manchester City defeated West Ham 5-0 to return to the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) table.
According to BBC News, Shaw’s treble was her first in the league this season and continued her impressive scoring form, having found the net in every WSL match she has started.
Shaw opened the scoring in the first half, calmly finishing a passing move after Lauren Hemp won possession high up the pitch.
City stepped up their attack after the break, with Shaw heading home Hemp’s cross to double the lead.
Japan international Aoba Fujino then scored her first league goal of the season before Swiss substitute Iman Beney also opened her league account, with her effort deflecting off West Ham midfielder Katie Zelem.
Shaw completed her hat-trick, her ninth in WSL history, after being set up by Grace Clinton.
The victory lifted City back to the top of the standings, with title rivals Chelsea dropping points in a draw against Everton at Stamford Bridge.
